Meet Dr. Karges

chemistry, physics, dmd degree, dentistry, omicron kappa upsilon dental honorary societyDr. Michael Karges is a native of Kentucky where he underwent his undergraduate training in Chemistry and Physics at the University of Kentucky. He obtained his D.M.D. Degree from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. While in training he was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honorary Society and received the Mosby Book Award for Dental Scholarship.

Upon graduating from the Dental College Dr. Karges immediately entered his Residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the A.B. Chandler Medical Center, also at the University of Kentucky. He was the first Kentucky College of Dentistry Graduate to be accepted into the Residency program, completing his training in 1971.

Dr. Karges has given lectures before the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The Volusia County Dental association, and multiple presentations to the various Dental study clubs of Volusia County. He also had a case report published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Karges is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a member of the Florida Society of O.M.S., the ADA, FDA, the Volusia-Flagler Dental Association, the Florida Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and a staff member of Halifax Medical Center.

Dr. Karges became a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the American College of Oral Implantology in 2001, an Associate member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in 1997, and a Fellow in the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery in 1997.

In July 1971, Dr. Karges moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where he established a private practice with current emphasis on extractions, wisdom teeth, dental implants, Botox cosmetic for frown wrinkles, dermal fillers for facial wrinkles and laser removal of facial wrinkles and lesions (sun damaged areas, moles, warts, etc.)

Dr. Karges is married to his life partner Judy, and has two grown sons, Kevin (a paramedic) and Steve (a pediatrician). He has four wonderful grandchildren by son Steve and wife Ivey. Besides family his other personal interests include fishing, photography, scuba diving, and a little poker. He was an avid ultralight pilot for twenty years until a near fatal crash in 2003 ended his flying career. His office is decorated with many aerial photographs as well as scuba diving pictures and wildlife.
